Why Fly Fish?

So many reasons and only one page. I guess my #1 answer is 'cause it beats the heck outa workin'. Fishin' aint hard, challenge yourself with the flyrod!

Do I need a special gear. Where do I start.

Buy a reasonable fly rod/reel combo. You can get kits with fly line and even starter flies.

How long will it take to learn?

In your whole life you won't learn everything. But don't be discouraged.

Should I buy a book or something?

You'd better, and ask people and look online. Info is your best weapon.

Should I tie my own flies?

Not required, but may I say that more personal satisfaction comes with hooking fish on your own original handmade creation.

Don't you only catch little fish on flies?

Not true and you can catch 2-3 lb. trout long after the steelhead are gone back to the lake. Don't rule out bass, pike and salmon on the fly too.

How can I start catching fish?

Once you have the gear pick a stream thats fairly clear and cold. Trout like cool well oxygenated waters. You'll have to experiment to see what the fish are feeding on. Now the lessons in streamside biology start. Try to imitate the bugs you see near the stream at that time of year. Consult a hatch chart for your region.

What's next?

Years of learning. I guarantee you'll love it, even the frustrating times when you can't buy a bite. Could be worse, you could be dead!

Can I fish with you?

If you're female, single and cute, you are welcome to try to keep up with me on the stream. Sorry guys. Find your own secret spots.
