Ice Fishing Early 2007

Jan 6.,2007 We had to wait a while for the ice this year. This time last year we were on thick ice. Shown here Jan 6, 2007.
 Iceberg Dead Ahead

Sometimes you just have to try. We had fun on a warm and beautiful day. No fish.

In between no bites we dodged an iceburg or two.

 Rocky the Rock Bass

Finally a fish! First hole, first time and then a loooong dry spell....

We were perplexed by the fish this year. Late ice, no weed or minnow die off and fish that seemed purpetually on the move meant a few fishless days.

But we tried. A day on the ice beats a day in front of the TV.  Fish Guy and the Gear!

Why does fish guy look so excited?

Scroll down to see his new super bright orange solid fibre glass flyce rod.

The clicker on the reel makes a great audible strike indicator and also allows the fish to run with you bait as you run to your rod. The solid fibreglass rod should be able to handle just about anything FG can hook into.

The single action reel brings a new level of challenge to ice fishing for pike and such.

Finally a Pike

Took a while but eventually the fish came. This one place first in the local derby. (for a while!)

This ones a fat little pike. About average length for the area but it would seem they are still very well fed. I did see a few cut open and the bellies were stuffed full of 3 inch Emerald Shiners. They are harder to catch when not hungary.

It wasn't easy to get ice time this season, but we still had some nice afternoons and evenings.
